I'm On Top of Cebu!

If there would be a place fit for couch potatoes like me who just want to see how beautiful the world is from the top of a mountain, it'd better be Osmena Peak. Unlike common misconceptions, Osmena Peak is not a mountain. Rather, it is one of the peaks, and the highest one belonging to the Mantalungon mountain range. Aside from an amazing view of the seaside and smaller peaks, Osmena Peak brings this chilly cold breeze that kisses your cheeks after hiking for half an hour.

1000+ meters above sea level!

We traveled for hours(sorry I can't remember how long) from the airport just to get to the starting point of the hike.  We registered for the hike and they assigned us a guide to assist us with the trail. Supposedly it could be free, but being the Filipinos we are, we gave our guide a tip for taking awesome group photos of us.

At the starting point!

Of course before we start the trail, like in every other activity involving nature, there will be rules. And some of them includes:

  • Step only in durable surfaces(make sure when you step on a rock, it's not loose)
  • Keep your trash to yourself. Throw it in a proper container.
  • No campfires
  • Respect wildlife(do not bother them!)
  • Store food securely
  • Be considerate of other visitors
  • Camp on durable spaces(Yes you can go camping here!)

We are only a few steps from the starting point but look at the view!!!

I already felt that I was high above the province as the temperature drops suddenly and opening the car windows is way way cooler than the air conditioner. It is becoming colder and colder. We started our hike at around 5 pm in the afternoon.

The hike takes around 20-30 minutes depending on the group. If you take photos from time to time, then it will really take longer to get to the top. But you can't really just ignore the view while hiking to the top so just grab that camera and click! There is no time limit anyway.

Most parts of the trail are very easy to follow. They really made it very visible that you won't have any problem if you get left out when taking too many photos.

There are steep trails which challenges unfit people like me. Nevertheless, it is never that difficult compared to my first ever mountain climbing experience in El Nido. Reaching Osmena Peak, is far easier than any other mountains in Manila so everyone can really enjoy the view.

I was already catching my breath when we reached the top. But everything is worth it. As you can see, there are other peaks when you reach the top. It's like spiked Chocolate Hills placed on a mountain range. You won't really realize that you're a thousand meters above sea level unless you climb on one of the rocks and try to stand and see the view of the ocean in the background. Sobrang nakakalula! That's the first time I feared heights.

Cebutiful!
Hiking to the top of Osmena Peak was our first activity when we set foot in Cebu. We were weclomed by a breathless view of Cebu and I think that's the best way to start off an adventure - seeing a new place from bird's eye view and being in awe of how wonderful the world could be.

    1. Hi Richel!

I'm not physically fit too but there are really mountains fit for unfit ones like us. :D If ever you go to Cebu, try this one. I promise it won't be as difficult as others. You can always take breaks in between. Reaching Osmena Peak is literally just walking to the top. ;)
