The PolyHobbyist

It's been 6 months ever since I stepped foot on the beautiful island of Siargao, and I can still remember my initial reaction of seeing a lot of coconut trees from the plane window. I knew I would get that island vibes I've been longing to have. Up to now, I still daydream of going back there. The island life it offers is just irresistible to me. We went there with no itinerary. But it turned out to be the best decision we had because we experienced it in a whole different way. It's the most relaxing trip I had. Here are 6 reasons why Siargao became my favorite island like those people who voted for it as Asia's Best Island by the Conde Nast Traveler:

1. Those Starry Nights

A sky full of stars >>>> Night Parties

If you go around social media travel sites, you'll know that Siargao is a good place for stargazing and capturing the Milky Way. There is less light pollution around so you can just lie on the beach and watch stars and meteors fall. The place where we stayed is just a minute away from the beach front. And each night, instead of looking for parties, we just stay by the beach and watch the dark sky full of stars. It's the first time I've seen this many stars in my whole life. I somehow regret not bringing my tripod with me in Siargao. That way, I could have taken more beautiful night sky photos and even the Milky Way if I'm lucky. When we went back to the city, I longed for this same sky to show up every night I go out of the office but I guess it would never happen.

2. Safely Roaming Around on Bikes

On days that we don't feel like doing island tours(perks of having no itinerary), we roam around General Luna on bikes. Bike rentals cost 150 pesos per day. As much as we want to rent a motorbike, none of us really know how to drive so we settled for just bikes. I'm not saying that Siargao has bike lanes, but because cars are not their primary mode of transportation(at least in my observation), we could bike on the roads without worrying so much of reckless drivers. Plus, the air is so clean, I won't really mind biking around the whole day.

Our bikes brought us to this beach in front of a cemetery. We didn't bike on the sand though.
While on our bikes, we can go everywhere we wanted to. Cloud 9 and the market is just a few kilometers away so bikes are really convenient. We even passed by a small cemetery which is near the beach.

3. Kermit's Pizza

Looks simple but is really delicious!
Kermit Restaurant is one of the famous food places you could find in the Internet if you're looking for where to eat in Siargao. And it's not just a hype. Their pizza is so good! I've been a lover of pizza ever since I could remember and their pizza is one of the best pizzas I've tasted. The pizza smells like it's cooked in brick oven or pugon. I still miss it up to this day honestly. I wish they could have more branches in Manila. I heard they already have one in the south.

4. Sugba Lagoon

Awkward Darna Jump LOL
Sugba Lagoon is my favorite of all the tourist sites that we visited in Siargao. And I would still go back here if given the chance. It is situated right passed the biggest Mangrove Forest in the Philippines. As much as I love beach waves, there's just security in lagoons. I feel safer since I won't be carried away by waves and that there are boundaries.

Who says you can't sit down?
Sugba Lagoon provides water activities like Stand Up Paddling, Kayaking, Board jumping, and just swimming on the clean, wide water form.

5. Siargao Dogs

A sweet dog in Daku Island
I have a deep love for dogs. And seeing dogs running towards the beach or just merely hanging out there is a bliss to me. They are just so cute! And I'm quite surprised that there are a number of breeds of dogs in Siargao. There are times that I wished life could be as simple as those dogs playing by the beach but nah, not gonna happen.

6. Their Fight Against Plastics and Garbage

I admire the people of Siargao for their efforts to reduce plastic consumption and garbage in their wonderful island. It is what sets them apart from other tourist spots in the Philippines. They love their island so much, they hated plastic and banned it in most establishments. Some establishments don't have take outs so they won't have to use plastic. But some establishments do have take outs but they find alternatives for plastics. Their straws there are either metal or bamboo. Utensils are metal. On our second day, we went to an island off the coast of Siargao. Our tour guides brought lunch and water bottles because we'll be hiking. Guess what, not much disposable plastic to be found in any of the containers, utensils, and bottles that they brought. That is how dedicated they were. And I salute them for it. They also have regular beach cleanups being held and tourists can become a part of it.

No plastics in sight.

Siargao deserved all the compliments and praise they are getting right now as the Best Island in Asia. I just wish that as tourists, we do our part on preserving the beauty of the island. Take part in beach cleanups and participate in their fight against plastic. That way, we could always go back to the same amazing Siargao we love.

Hey everyone! Welcome back to me! hihi. I can barely keep track of when I last posted here. Nevertheless, Happy New Year to you guys! If you're reading this, I just want to say thank you for keeping up with me last 2017. Time flew by very fast and now, we're almost done for the first month of 2018! Gosh, kumalma ka time please. It's too fast!

This post is really late but I still want to do this just to share with you guys what I've been up to for the past weeks that I've been neglecting my blog duties. Here's what made me happy for the last quarter of 2017:

1 I'm Now a Certified Software Tester!
I guess I haven't really told you about what I do outside this little blog of mine. I work as a Software Test Engineer for a Mobile Networks company, Nokia. Apart from their mobile phone business, they have other business lines and Mobile Networks is one of them. In general, what I do is to test the software that they use for their Mobile Networks business. Last October, my manager told me that he signed me up to take the ISTQB Foundation Level Exam. It was the first certification I took after the board exams. The exam was held last December so I only had a month and a few weeks to study. That ate most of my time. And to pass this certification meant that I am competent enough to test software so this is a great achievement for me last year. *Pats myself on the back*

2 My Blog's Little Successes

My blog turned 1 last January 9.(I honestly forgot LOL) It may not be as big as other blogs out there who always get sponsors or is enough for them to be financially stable without their day jobs, but I'm still happy that my blog has achieved milestones last year. One of those is that I got to pay for my domain this year from the money I earned from a sponsored post. Thank you for trusting my blog! hihi. I am also getting traffic from social media sites with Google most of all. You know what that means? My SEO efforts are working! I felt so much satisfaction the first time that I saw one of my posts to be on the first page of the Google search engine. It felt surreal!

But above all these, I think the greatest achievement that my blog has reached is that I am able to fulfill one of this blog's objectives: To share information. Our tour guide during our Tangadan Falls adventure PMed me out of nowhere(I still wonder til now how he found my Facebook account), thanking me for sharing his contact number on DIY Travel Philippines. According to him, he got a lot of clients from there. I never thought I would reach that far. And so this year, I plan to still do the same: To share reliable information and help our local tour guides with their business.

3 Winning My Battle Against Acne

Also on the last quarter of 2017, is when my confidence rock bottomed. I never had acne before and to experience it was really one of my worst days. At first, I was in denial that I have acne. I started to have bumps on my cheeks. Three I think. But then it became worse. They started appearing everywhere and I felt bad that time that I didn't even want to go to work. I don't want to see my face. I felt so ugly.(Please don't judge huhu) But then came a point that I was able to accept it. I sought for professional help. I went to Skin Station(Oops this is not a sponsored post). Luckily, they were able to cure it. I had facial session every 2 weeks plus meds and skin care products. The first 2 sessions were rough. I cried a lot because the pricking was so painful. And my face looked like a battlefield afterwards. There was blood everywhere! I even had to take a leave after the first session because my face is still red the day after. Thankfully, after all the pricking and peeling, my acne situation got better. I don't have cystic acne anymore. I still have scars on my cheeks and still getting treatment. But I'm really glad that I don't feel that bad anymore and my confidence is slowly coming back to its normal level.

4 Celebrated my 25th

Sorry for the blurry photo hihi

I celebrated my 25th birthday last December 8 hihi. #QuarterLifeCrisis I'm actually in crisis last year. I'm feeling so lost. I didn't know what to do with my life. But every worry slowly passed and now, I'm just taking life one day at a time. I just celebrated my birthday with the people I treasure the most, my family. We ate dinner at this super cheap but delicious restaurant near our home.

I also got to celebrate my birthday at The Nook with Chad hihi. We bummed and dined there for a few hours and enjoyed wearing the Slytherin and Ravenclaw uniforms. <3

5 Spent the Holidays by the Beach

Paparazzi shots of my Mama, Papa and our baby Sam hihi

Caba, La Union

Turning our Japanese Cousin into a Gyojin!(Fishman in Japanese)

The Holidays last year was fun. Our Tita(who is also my second Mom) and her son went home from Japan so we treated her to an out of town to La Union last Christmas. La Union never failed to relax my soul. We didn't stay at the famous surfing spot, San Juan, rather we stayed at one of the nearby towns which is Caba. Nevertheless, the beach is still beautiful and the waves are still strong. We enjoyed our stay there. It was just us and the beach. <3

I didn't had the chance to say this last year. But from the bottom of my beating heart, thank you guys for being part of my 2017! I had my fair shares of highs and lows last year but my 2017 ended awesomely. Hope you had a great start of 2018! Til my next post(I'll be sharing my bullet journal setup hihi). Bye! :D

Before the year started, I said to myself that I won't be travelling frequently for now. But I guess my inner self didn't understood that so in a span of 6 months, I've been to 7 different places - in and out of Philippines. This has been the most frequent that I've traveled ever since I started in 2015. Good job self, you just broke your own record and your own word LOL. I didn't regret anything though. It's nice to get three shades darker due to discovering places and not because I commute to and from work without any umbrella. At least I know that for the past few months, I lived.

Because of that, I had around 180 days of summer for this year! The best summer so far. And with that, here's my Happy Summer List:

#1 Spent Labor Weekend in La Union with Workmates and Chad

LU Squad!
It's my first time to travel with friends at work. I don't want to go back to La Union for Labor weekend though. #DamingTaoHassle But I would want to come back for those days where all we did was have fun at the beach, visit Tangadan Falls, and eat Bagnet! Gosh, I miss Bagnet.

#2 Camped at Dampalitan Island with College Batchmates

Oh island life <3
Around the same month when we visited La Union, I went on a camping trip with my college friends. During daytime, we just swam at the beach, slept at the banana beds they brought and played like we're kids again. And at night we just drank beer while playing and laughing our hearts out under the dark sky lit by thousands of stars. I wish I could have taken a shot of that night sky. It was wonderful. That day was wonderful.

#3 Family Reunion for my Grandmother's 70th Birthday

Always <3
It's not everyday someone turns 70 isn't she? So to make our grandmother feel special on achieving this great milestone, we all went to a resort in Bulacan to celebrate. I got to bond with my cousins. And the extended family also met Chad for the first time. How time flies! My cousins already have babies making me a  fully-grown tita! No plans for having babies on our own for now though hihi. #CareerWoman #LahatKinacareer

#4 SG-MY, My First Ever Out of the Country Trip

Pretty Girls!
I didn't plan to have an out of the country trip for this year. But then one day, my impulsive self went on a search for travel buddies who would want to visit Singapore. 7 months later, I was on a plane to Singapore with my sisters! Swerte namin na may umampon samin for 6 days kaya libre accommodation. Thank you Den and Cath!
Rainbow Reef
Singapore is such a wonderful country. I can't stop looking at Marina Bay Sands when we roamed the whole day around it. Universal Studios Singapore is waaaaay above Enchanted Kingdom in terms of attractions. I was also able to tick off something from my bucket list which is to ride a double decker bus. And most of all, I swam with hundreds of colorful fishes in Resorts World Sentosa's Adventure Cove.

Let your ... run wild teheee
As for Malaysia, we just did a side trip to Legoland. I must say, it's a theme park for kids. But I enjoyed viewing the Lego exhibits featuring the iconic landmarks of different countries.
KL? Nope. :P

#5 Being Able to Achieve my Target Body

#AwraPaMore #PinaghirapanKoYan
I think I gained 5 kilograms ever since I started working. Food is just too hard to ignore! But my future trip to Boracay made me do the impossible - going on a diet. I started cutting down my rice intake to half almost 3 months ago and went to the gym for at most twice a week. I think that's the greatest achievement I had for this year. :D

#6 Boracay with Chad <3

Love parin kita kahit di ka nageexercise huehue
Chad always wanted to take me to Boracay. But due to strict parents, we can't possibly go there all by ourselves. Thank God for my workmates! They also wanted to go to Boracay so we all went there last August 31.
My version of "Dadalhin kita sa langit"
I got to try out new activities with Chad. First was parasailing. I thought Chad would be scared because he's somehow afraid of heights but no, he enjoyed it a lot. As for me, I got motion sickness and I almost puked. But it was fun. It's both our first time and I'm happy my boyfriend agreed to do this with me.
Flying Fish pero saglit lang lumipad
The second thing we did is to ride a flying fish. Chad, being a safe person, was quite hesitant at first because it's an extreme ride but he did it anyways hihi. Thanks Love.

#7 Boracay Sunset

In awe of your beauty
I love to watch sunsets at the beach. I think there's something on a beach sunset that makes everyone swoon. And the Boracay sunset? It's amazing. The sailboats passing by the giant ball of light even made the sunset more dramatic. We spent the golden hour lying on the fine sand and just talking about life. That's one of the moments I'll definitely miss in Boracay.

#8 Found My Way Back to Hand Lettering

Mantra
I called myself The PolyHobbyist for a reason. And it's because I have so many hobbies. One of things that I really love doing is hand lettering. But these past few months, I think I failed to show you guys that. And because I'll be stuck in Manila for the rest of the year, *hopefully* here I am, crawling my way back to my favorite art. I'm not a pro. But there's just something in creating art that takes all the stress and worries away. Every time I immerse myself in hand lettering, I forget all about my worries and frustrations. Welcome back self!

I was feeling lost these past few days. I felt disconnected from my blog despite being able to do weekly posts. Maybe because I miss my old blogger self. I really miss personal posts like this. Hope you missed this one too. Happy Sunday!

I appreciate sunrises more than sunsets. It is for the reason that I'm not really a morning person and I only get to see it seldom times. Moreover, it gives us a brand new reason to live. A way to start over. So when I saw this sun rise in Panglao, Bohol, I knew I had to capture it. For I know, months will pass again without me ever seeing it. Plus, I find the Sun most beautiful when it kisses the ocean's horizon. Like what sunrise makes me feel, my very first Happy List for this year and for this new blog consists of things that I wanted to really start with accompanied by the usuals-but-never-getting-tired of blessings. And this time, I chose to add some photos to make it more memorable tehee. Here's my 9th Happy List:

1. The PolyHobbyist was born!

I've been blogging in Tumblr for almost 6 years when I felt the urge to move to a new blogging platform to further learn about the craft. I first moved to wordpress but then I find the platform too limiting and so I ended up with blogspot. Thanks to Chad's(my number one fan) encouragements and Bea's advice, I purchased my own domain in Pangalan.com and never felt happier towards my blogging experience ever since.

2. Signed up as a Zomato Blogger and Travelbook Affiliate!

3. Bought my DSLR from my own pocket

My Firebolt <3
I've been planning to buy my own camera to study photography ever since I started to work. But it took me 3 years due to my confused prioritizing sh*ts. But when I had the money I needed, it seemed as though I'm the happiest that day when I get the hold of this. And it made me even proud of myself that I'm really starting to choose what really makes me happy. Starting of with this blog and my camera.

4. Rewards from my boss at work! Hooray for GCs!

5. TIP Students' Night

Nakiki-student sa TIP!
My college friends and I went back to our Alma Matter to attend Parokya ni Edgar's concert. My body ached afterwards but being able to be one with the crowd singing lots of hugot and opm songs is all worth it!

6. Amazing Food Park close to home

Most Awesome Foodpark Evaaah!
If you haven't read my previous post, I have this favorite Food Park in Marikina which is just a few minutes from our home. You know what that means? We get to eat wings any time! Woohoo!

7. First(and won't be the last) time to eat Samgyeopsal

Samgyeopsal Seoul Train Style
I never knew there's such thing as a healthy barbecue dish but such really exists! Not only that, it is inside a train-themed restaurant. I never imagined my first Samgyeopsal experience better than this!

8. Sam's Cute Furballs

Zombies await!
Most of the time, I love dogs more than people. They love you without asking for anything in return. With them, there's less drama and more cuteness. And nothing takes off my stress more than dogs do. I'll be sharing more of their photos on my SHOOT series hihi. I'll have to find out how RAW format works first hihi. Tips anyone please?

9. The Super Kilig, My Ex and Why's Movie

You should not miss this guys! The movie is so beautifuuuuuul and funny. Joross and Ryan Bang FTW! I wish I could also visit Korea with Chad soon. <3

10. 2 years and 6 months with my Everyday <3

The only DAHIL I need <3
Everything that I'm pursuing today won't even be possible without this man's(yes you're  a man already!hihi) help and encouragements. He believed in me more than I believed in myself. That's why I always find myself blessed ever since I've been with him. Thank you for 2.5 years of friendship and love baby. I won't still be here, publishing this post if it weren't for you. :*

So far, my 2017's on the right track. I hope I'll be able to consistently pursue what fulfills me the most for the next days to come. Oh, and you could also read my previous Happy Lists HERE. Have a nice week ahead to you! :)
